PRACTICE STRUCTURE
Practices are optional, but they are a great way to review steps and meet club members in a smaller setting, so we encourage everyone to check them out! We will have a board member at every team practice to answer your questions, whether they be about dancing, Columbia, or life in general. During weekly practice times, we offer several practice programs:
-
Weekly newcomer workshops: an advanced dancer will review the figures learned from that week’s newcomer classes, introduce some basic technique, and answer any questions.
-
Rounds: a competition simulation, where each of the five Standard and Latin dances are done continuously to mimic a final round in a comp. There are a great way to prepare for competitions or see where you stand, and help build up endurance!
Other than these, practices are largely unstructured, with music and speakers provided.
Lastly, we will have unsupervised practice space on certain Wednesdays with no music or speakers. This space will not always be available for open use, as we will sometimes be holding workshops on Wednesdays! If you are interested in using this space, email us and we will forward you the relevant DFC protocol.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR PRACTICE?
Our main advice is about what you don't need - you don't need a partner or extensive experience to start practicing. If you're not sure what to practice, reviewing class is always a good place to start, and there will be a board member there available to answer questions and help out.
ACCESSING PRACTICE SPACE
Directions: Our practices are held in Dodge Aerobics Room 3. To find it, enter Dodge Fitness Center, walk towards the blue gym (right), cross the tracks, and take the stairs on the right down one flight.
According to Columbia policy, DFC membership is required to access DFC. CU undergrads and some grad students already have DFC memberships - just remember to bring CU ID! Not sure whether you have a membership/concerned about it? Feel free to email us!
