FIRST STEPS
In the beginning of every semester, we have a showcase to introduce what we do on campus and a week of free classes. We encourage everyone interested in joining to come out to those - no partner or prior experience is necessary (but we also welcome those who have either)! Besides that, the two important things you can do are:
1. Join our mailing list to stay updated
2. Check out our website to learn more about the club
OFFICIALLY JOINING
To continue taking classes and having access to programming throughout the semester, members need to 1. pay club dues and 2. register on the Columbia Club Sports website here. That's it! To those interested in mentorship or competing, check out those pages for more info on how to sign up.
Deadline to pay dues Fall 2015: Oct 9th
Joining midway through the semester? No worries! Just email us.
DUES
If you pay the dues as specified below, you get access to instruction from New York’s best instructors - and if you pay for dues, you’ll pay at most $8 a class if you attend every class, even less if you sign up for multiple tracks! Moreover, paying dues entitles you to use some of Columbia’s very coveted dance practice spaces without having to worry about reservations. Other benefits of paying dues and being a full member of our club:
-
Get competition registration for team competitions covered - that's around $40-50 per competition you won't have to pay!
-
Get half of travel for team competitions covered - around $25-30 per competition!
-
Be eligible to join our mentorship program - a unique opportunity to work with an upper-level dancer each week at no additional cost
-
Get access to team apparel and discounts to minimize (optional) costs for ballroom supplies such as dance shoes or competition wear
-
Come to fun ballroom events + preparatory workshops
**Open level dancers who join as mentors will not have to pay dues to the club, and will get full travel expenses to and from team competitions covered (in addition to the already covered competition fees).**
Dues Collection: Every year, we collect dues for two weeks during classes. During those weeks, we ask that everyone please come 15-20 minutes early to class, bring ID (student ID if you have it), and come with cash or a check (cash preferred). If you do not want to pay full dues the first week of dues collection, you can pay $10 trial fee per class you attend. The second week, however, you will have to pay full dues. If paying dues is a significant financial hurdle for you, please email us to set up at time to talk with our treasurer.
